Our First VRBO Cabin Adventure

We took a big leap of faith. We bought 6 acres in between Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee to build our first vacation rental, and we couldn’t be more excited. We purchased in a 2000 acre gated community in Monteagle, Tennessee. Its nestled on top of the Cumberland Plateau and is a beautiful little slice of heaven.

Why did we choose this location? Its located minutes from the University of the South, Sewannee and my family actually had a home here in the same neighborhood when I was a little girl for about ten years. My family enjoyed going so much and the fond memories drew me right back in. Swimming in the lake and catching my first catfish and taking time to relax on a back porch really still are some of the fondest memories I have from childhood. We stayed a few times over this past summer and immediately fell in love all over again. We’ve been praying about a new real estate adventure and felt ready and jumped.

We researched a few local cabin companies and found one within miles from the neighborhood itself. The plan we choose was based on their November deal and we couldn’t be happier with “Little Beaver Creek.” I plan on making our cabin a more modern chic rustic getaway. Totally opposite than our white farmhouse. This plan is a little over 1800 square feet 3 beds and two baths. We plan on using all of the space to make it sleep around 8.

I love so many home decor styles. From boho chic, to antique farmhouse, too modern farmhouse and more. I want to take this opportunity to make something new and different than that of our current home. My husband loves a more modern industrial style, and I think we will lean into that. He may never want to come back to farmhouse life :). I’m attaching a few inspiration pics below of what we are leaning toward with the cabin. It will have a metal roof either black or silver and all white window and door accents and YES, the exterior will be black. I can’t tell you how many ugly grimaces I have gotten about that one but trust me, it will be beautiful. I’d also love to incorporate a flat river rock or natural stone for the fireplace as well and include a more modern railing around the porches.

For those of you feeling skeptical of a black log cabin here is my first inspirational photo below.

The interior will be sprayed white. Similar to these photos below.

It is our plan to hopefully have @crateandcabin up and running in late spring. We can’t wait to share this experience and take you each along for the ride. We hope you guys rent the cabin and enjoy our home with us. I promise to be very accommodating :). To follow along on updates as they happen follow us @crateandcabin on Instagram.
