In this episode, I talk about how most of us do not know what fun is. While some of us still live with that same childlike playfulness, a lot of us- especially women- suffer from a crowded plate and too much guilt to even think of fun. This week, I share why as adults we need to have fun. You don’t need to schedule a playdate, but you should have time for fun! Having fun increases our cognitive capacity, enhances our creativity and improves our overall wellbeing. Playtime shouldn’t end once the real adulting kicks in. Though it might be hard at first, I am here to remind you that it’s time to have fun.
- Rachel talks about having fun, maybe it’s inspired by Cyndi Lauper’s famous tune, but in any case, the reality is that many of us do not know what fun is. For women, it can be so hard because a lot of us have so much on our plate (cue mom guilt), that we don’t have time to think of what we do for fun. Did you know adults need playtime as well? (2:23)
- So how exactly do you have fun? Rachel shares what she likes to do for fun (4:40)
- Rachel shares how her need to always be productive has derailed her ability to have fun and how that impacts her when she thinks about fun. She reminds us how we are capable of fun we just need to make some time for it, which could be as simple as setting a minimum amount of time you want to dedicate towards having fun (7:44)
- What does fun look like in Rachel’s household? She explains what her husband and family mentor do for fun. Your version of fun doesn’t have to look like her examples. What matters is that you prioritize it and encourage yourself to have fun. Rachel explains that fun is about being creative and finding new ways to jazz up day to day activities (9:27)
