Here’s the post you’ve all been waiting for. The links to all the sources at our first ever vacation rental home. I will first say that this has been a fun and stressful adventure. Everything finished right around the holidays and we worked tirelessly to get everything purchased, moved, and assembled with a few weeks time. I think I’ll remember the utter exhaustion for the rest of my life :). Was it worth it, well I sure hope so. It turned out aesthetically beautiful. I went for a more modern bohemian look with this home. As a designer, I cherish all aspects of design. I told Richard that I could have a house in every style. I think what makes you a successful designer is when you can hear someones wishes and understand enough about each style to bring them to reality even when it is outside of your comfort zone. I have never worked within this modern realm but knew immediately what my vision was. Take a peek.
Our vacation rental, Crate and Cabin is about one and half hours south east of Nashville Tennessee in the small town of Monteagle, TN. Located almost exactly halfway between Nashville and Chatanooga, Monteagle is home to the presitgeous university of the south Sewanne University. With beautiful bluff views, walking trails, a private lake, and swimming pool, our cabin is settled on 6 acres in a private gated community. If you are looking for a quick getaway from either large city and desire that secluded mountain solitude, this is your place. After we purchased our lot, we worked with Battle Creek Log Homes to build the cabin. We chose the Beaver Creek Plan and couldn’t be happier. A sweet background story is that my parents owned a home in the same neighborhood when I was child. Now we have come full circle and we can’t wait to offer it to you.
When designing this house, I tried to keep things simple. There are three bedrooms and a loft, and I wanted ample sleeping space. If you follow me at all on social media, you also know that I am as frugal as it comes. I think it is what separates me from a lot of others. I like to hunt for clearance deals, use Facebook Marketplace, and repurpose items all on a small budget. This cabin was no different. I strictly stuck to Wayfair, Target, Amazon, and IKEA for all purchases. It’s amazing to be able to shop an entire house without ever leaving your couch. But before sharing all my sources, I must share with you the companies I was fortunate enough to work with for lighting, hardware, and our kitchen sink.
All wall lighting and fans in our home were provided by Kichler Lighting. What an amazing company. Honest, trustworthy, and dependable. My lights are all amazing quality and are the first things I notice when in the space. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. Below are a couple photos of what we chose and links for others.
We also had the pleasure of working what Blanco for our beautiful farm house sink. We went with the BLANCO IKON 27″ Farmhouse sink in white. This sink is a granite composite and one of a kind. It’s heat resistant up to over 500 degrees and is scratch and stain proof. Yes, sign me up! It has some great accessories too like the cutting board seen below and also a sink grid.
I must also talk about our amazing Hardware from Atlas Homewares. We went with the It Pull-6 5/16 Inch pulls in French Gold for the Kitchen and Laundry room and in Modern Bronze for both baths. It adds the sleek modern touch I was looking for and is so simple and elegant. Atlas, was wonderful to work with and their products are affordable. It was a pleasure to work with each of these companies.
Vintage Tub and Bath is my go to stop for bath tubs. Our clawfoot at home is from this company, so I was excited to work with them again. For the cabin we went with the Lily Acrylic Double Ended Freestanding Tub seen below.
Delaney Hardwares provided all our door hardware and our keyless entries for both the front and back door. We choose the Asheville Antique brass lever for all our doors.

I also want to include the tile we choose for both bathrooms and our flooring choice. Both products are from Floor and Decor. We went with the black hex tile seen here.

I must say the hardest part about this experience has been learning how to create a home for others. What to have in this house that someone may need and thinking beyond my own personal preferences. Because we built this house from the ground up, it has also added a lot of responsibilities to our plates. We were our own general contractors and subbed our everything and doing that in a city you aren’t familiar with takes a lot of trust and faith.
